Alex, Alex & Ian from The Cab

The Cab is a pop/rock band from Sin City, aka Las Vegas, Nevada. They have been heating up the music scene with their infectious songs and killer stage performances, not too mention they aren’t too bad to look at! The band consists of Alex DeLeon (vocals), Cash Colligan (bass), Alex Johnson (drums), Alex Marshall (piano/vocals) and Ian Crawford (guitar). They are currently on tour with We The Kings for The Secret Valentine Tour and we got a chance to catch up with two of the Alex(s) and Ian on Thursday (March 5th) for  the Toronto stop of the tour.

iheartthemusic: Welcome to Toronto boys! The Cab is an interesting choice for a band name, is there any significance behind it?

Alex (singer): There isn’t really any meaning behind the name. We were The Cabgoing through a few names and just thought that it sounded cool.

iheartthemusic: So you guys were originally signed on to another label before joining Decaydance Records, however rumour has it that they never released anything. What happened?

Alex (singer): See this is why you should never trust Wikipedia. We were never signed to another label and we have no clue why they say that. So many people get that wrong, I think they are referring to another band, but definitely not ours.

The Cabiheartthemusic: Well that’s good to know! You do have an interesting story about how you got discovered.

Alex (singer): We were actually at a Cobra Starship concert and ended up handing our demo to Spencer from Panic At The Disco. We really didn’t even think that he was going to listen to it, but figured we should give it a shot. He ended up giving it to his label and everything kind of went from there.

iheartthemusic: Well talk about being at the right place at the right time! You’ve since released your first album, Whisper War, and shot three music videos, one of which was for your single “Bounce.” Can you tell us a little bit about the concept behind that video?

Alex (singer): I thought it would be cool to have everyone in white and Alex DeLeonthen have this explosion of colour. In the video everyone is wearing white and the only colour is seen in the drinks that people are drinking. By the end of the video someone spills a drink and then all of sudden everyone is covered in colour. Against the white clothes that everyone is wearing it looks really good.

iheartthemusic: It is definitely a unique concept! You also have a fairly close relationship with Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. What has it been like working with him?

Alex (singer): Honestly, I don’t even look at it like that. To me he has become more of a friend than anything else. He is a really nice guy, I mean I was at his wedding and everything and he is just like any other person.

The Cabiheartthemusic: Is it a collaborative effort when it comes to writing or does one person tend to take over that responsibility?

Alex (singer): We are kind of all in it together.

Ian: One person may have an idea and then we bring it all together and see what works and what doesn’t. It’s definitely a joint effort.

    iheartthemusic: Any crazy fan experiences?

Alex (keys): We honestly love all our fans. Some are a little bit more Alex & Ian from The Cabintense than others, but it’s flattering to know that you have that affect on someone.

Ian: Yah, it’s great to be able to meet the fans after the show and talk to them face-to-face.

iheartthemusic: These boys will be doing TONS of touring in the coming months so be sure to check back on their MySpace for constant updates or to just give them a listen: www.myspace.com/thecab
